New and improved mobile career centre heads out across Alberta
Edmonton…Careers in Motion, a
mobile career centre, is ready to hit the road to bring job search and
training information to Albertans. The new, high-tech RV replaces an
older vehicle and gives Albertans, especially those in rural areas,
better technology and more space to look for work and explore their
career options.
“Stepping inside the Careers in Motion RV can help Albertans take a
big step toward reaching their career or education goals,” said Mike
Cardinal, Minister of Human Resources and Employment. “It’s one of the
unique ways government is helping to build Alberta’s workforce.”
This year, the Careers in Motion RV will visit a number of northern
communities from High Prairie to Slave Lake. When visitors get on
board, they will find laptops connected to high speed wireless
internet, a printer, fax machine, phones and resource materials. They
can use the technology to investigate jobs, contact a career
counsellor, or get resumé writing help-all for free.
Since Careers in Motion was launched in 2001, it has been a popular
resource in rural communities. Between 2001 and 2005, the Careers in
Motion RV visited more than 35 communities and had over 20,000
visitors. The new RV is expected to attract even more interest.
