I hate workplace conflict, and I think the worst kind is conflict that isn’t out in the open yet. I have worked in organizations where conflict never reaches the surface, but people tip-toe around in meetings, and make an effort to avoid certain people in the halls, and it absolutely zaps organizational productivity. It’s so much better to have open communication and to discuss/solve conflicts.
My current organization actually did a study last year that found you could channel conflict to improve innovation, productivity, etc. It’s a really interesting read, and explores how conflict effects the workplace world-wide.
