How to Work for an Introvert

January 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Bert Webb has been one of my regular blog reads for some time. Back in September he seemed to slide off the face of the blogosphere without a word. Given the personal philosophy he has communicated in his writing, I figured some major upheaval was keeping him from posting. He’s back and his posts gives some idea of the difficulties he has been facing.

In among the challenges in his personal life, he has been adjusting to a new boss in his professional life. He posts some things he has done to improve the working relationship with an introverted boss.

  • Give your introverted boss time
  • You take the responsibility to follow-up
  • Offer to take the lead in presentations or work with groups when it doesn’t undermine the introverted boss’ authority
  • Coach your introverted boss when you feel he or she must take action
  • Offer to work as a team to resolve corporate or departmental conflicts
  • Teach the rank and file how to work successfully for an introvert
