Workplace Safety in Canada

January 16th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Back in April I pointed to a series of stories CBC ran on workplace safety in Canada. This time around, CBC is looking at the disconnect between workplace safety inspections and the modern workplace environment. The series, Out of Sync, looks at increasing safety threats in health-care and administrative work settings, while safety legislation continues to focus on traditional higher-risk work sites, such as manufacturing and construction.

I work in the community as a Personal Support worker. I work in an individual’s private home. This is my workplace. I seem to have no rights since my work environment is a private home. There are a number of safety issues that need to be address in this type of environment. With more and more individual’s choosing to stay at home longer more community workers will be needed to address this issue. We need protection.

Interesting point, Brenda. I had not thought about that aspect of workplace safety.
