Before You Quit Your Job

January 5th, 2007 · No Comments

Remember starting a new job? You started well, keen to prove your employers had made the right decision in hiring you. Now it’s time to make a career move and you become sneaky, underhanded and perhaps more. How can we finish as well as we started?

Michael Hyatt, President & CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, posts seven+ items to consider before you even start to look for a new job.

  1. Determine to exit with dignity and honour.
  2. Count the cost of leaving your present job.
  3. Give your employer a chance to address your issues.
  4. Honour your commitments to your current employer.
  5. Don’t look for another job on company time or with company email.
  6. Don’t share proprietary information with prospective employers.
  7. Don’t conspire with others to leave the company.

His plus tip: discuss leaving with your supervisor before talking to co-workers.
